Fighting unintended pregnancies among young Rwandan women

I did my my studies at Fawe girls’ school that gave me a well packed confidence that girls are brilliant and have potential, I also learned about the importance of being proactive in facing challenges. This shifted my mindset and motivated me to pursue women’s empowerment activities and interventions but my cousin’s experience of teenage pregnancy at the age of 16 pushed me to turn wishes into actions.

My name is Amina Muhoza and I am the CEO of SAYE company, that initiated DUKATAZE to fight against unwanted pregnancies among young girls. Our strategy is to use technology and direct community engagement approaches in order to empower our fellow through counseling and peer mentorship.

Started  in early 2017, SAYE company got a chance to be part of YouthConnekt bootcamp the same year from which I acquired needed knowledge and skills about business management, market research, and prototyping. The skills gained from bootcamp have allowed me to reshape my business model and supported me to strategically increase the number of beneficiaries as well. the platform gave me an exposure that grew our partnership with other big organizations. before joining YouthConnekt, i was the only employee but now there are 8 of us.

Our business model is to provide free consulting services to vulnerable young girls and train them to be productive economically then support them to sell their products through our online platform.

I have achieved a lot since, whereby i have participated in the Young Africa leaders Program (YALI), I have been selected among 40 Education innovators by the African Union and now board member of Digital Opportunity Trust-Rwanda.
